Community Alert: Rogue Traders (“Nottingham Knockers”) in Bisley and Oakridge Lynch

In the early part of September, Rogue Traders and Door Step Callers were operating in Bisley and Oakridge Lynch.  The Police are aware and give the following advice:

These individuals typically go door-to-door selling household items such as cleaning products, claiming to be ex-offenders or vulnerable people seeking work. While not all doorstep sellers are acting unlawfully, residents are advised to exercise caution, as some rogue traders may use this activity to identify vulnerable residents or gather information about properties.
Please remember:

  • Do not feel pressured into buying anything at your door – The products being sold are often significantly overpriced and may be available much cheaper in local shops.
  • Ask for identification and verify credentials where appropriate
  • Report any suspicious behaviour to the police – while one person is engaging a resident at the front door, others may be observing the property, noting security measures, or identifying vulnerable occupants.
  • Look out for elderly or vulnerable neighbours who may be targeted.
  • If you are interested in purchasing services or goods, obtain quotes from reputable local traders rather than agreeing to doorstep offers.
  • Be wary of callers who try to create urgency or pressure you into making a quick decision.
  • If a caller refuses to leave when asked, becomes aggressive, or attempts to enter a property, contact police immediately.

Remember: Genuine callers will not object if you take time to verify who they are or tell them that you are not interested.
If you see anyone acting suspiciously or feel threatened, call 999. For non-emergency concerns or to report suspicious activity, contact 101 or report online via the Gloucestershire Constabulary website.

Care Home Guide

CareHomeGuide.uk is a free independent directory of CQC rated care homes in England.

We have put together a page for Stroud residents with two things on it. A list of every care home in the area with its CQC rating and contact details, and a free copy of our NHS Continuing Healthcare guide, which normally costs £37.

Continuing Healthcare is the bit most families miss. If someone qualifies, the NHS covers their care home fees in full, with no means test. Very few people know it exists, and the ones who do often give up partway through the assessment.

There is nothing to buy and no catch. We make our money from care homes, not families.
