Stroud District Council – The Annual Canvass is in Progress

Stroud District Council is reminding residents to look out for their Annual Canvass Household Letter, which is being delivered to homes across the district.  The annual canvass is a legal requirement to ensure the electoral register is accurate and up to date. This helps make sure that everyone who is eligible to vote can have their say in future elections.

Letters will be sent to households that did not respond to an email sent in June, as well as to all households for which the elections service does not hold an email address.  If your letter advises that you need to respond, please do so by Monday 25 August 2025.

Have your say on the future of local councils in Gloucestershire

Have your say on Local Governement Reorganisation

Big changes could be coming to how your local services are run – and your voice matters.
The Government is asking councils in Gloucestershire to propose new ways of working. This could mean replacing the current county and district, city and borough councils with fewer, larger ‘unitary’ councils that manage all services – including waste & recycling, roads and transport, health and social care, libraries, education, planning and more.
Your feedback will help shape the proposals before they’re submitted to Government this autumn.
From the roads you drive on to the bins you put out, the schools your children attend to the care your loved ones receive – council services are part of daily life. This is your chance to help shape how they’re delivered in the future.

RIDE + STRIDE 2025     Taking place on Saturday, 13th September 2025, Ride+Stride is a national sponsored event where participants walk, cycle, scoot, or even horse ride between local churches to raise funds for their upkeep. It’s a brilliant opportunity for communities to engage in a fun, healthy activity while supporting the preservation of local churches and their vital role in the community.

While Ride+Stride is a national initiative, it’s also the biggest fundraiser of the year for Gloucestershire Historic Churches Trust (GHCT). GHCT works to protect and preserve churches across the county, ensuring they remain open, welcoming, and valuable to local communities for generations to come.

Why Are Churches So Important?
Churches are more than just places of worship; they serve as community hubs, hosting local clubs, children’s activities, support services, and providing a place of solace for those in need. Many people use these spaces without even realising it—whether for meetings, social events, or special celebrations. By supporting Ride+Stride, you can help ensure these spaces continue to remain available to everyone.

Fires being lit in the small recreation ground in Eastcombe

We are still experiencing anti-social behaviour in the smaller of the two recreation grounds in Eastcombe.  Along the southern boundary, amongst the line of conifer trees, people are gathering to meet and leaving behind rubbish including broken bottles, as well as taking down the stone wall and building fires.  Despite signs and patrols by the Neighbourhood Warden and local PCSOs, this is continuing to take place.  If you see any anti-social behaviour, please ring 101 and report it.  If you see fires being lit, this is arson and you should dial 999 and ask for the fire brigade.
